Lex Analitik takes part in the 6th CIS Local Counsel Forum held in Almaty on June 22-24, 2011

The 6th CIS Local Counsel Forum was successfully held in Almaty at the InterContinental Hotel on June 22-24, 2011.

The Forum is the main platform in the CIS economic region for brining together leading business lawyers. It is held annually in different locations within the CIS chosen by the Forum’s delegates, and this year, for first time in its history, the event took place in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Over the years the CIS Forum has evolved into an informal network of managing and senior partners of national law firms from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, bringing them together with partners from international law firms from around the world.

The main objective of the Forum is to enable legal professionals to share their professional and business experience and expertise and to establish new and maintain existing professional contacts.

Some of the items on the agenda included:

1.    Management Hour (organisation and management of a law practice): partnership forms and issues, marketing, attracting young talent, virtual office, personnel training, billing structures, technology, legal fees, and development plans.
2.    Customs Roundtable
3.    Compliance and Corporate-Social Responsibility - 2010 UK Bribery Act, the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and national anti-money-laundering and anti-bribery laws.
4.     Natural Resources - Conventional and Unconventional Energy
5.    Commercial Dispute Resolution
6.    Thinking Globally: Competitive Strategies for Domestic Legal Markets

A number of local Kazakhstani companies participated in this successful event, including Lex Analitik Law Firm represented by its Managing Partner, Ms Olga Somova. During the Forum Ms Somova spoke about the firm and its operations, sharing her knowledge and opinion on the legal market and its development.
